I Saw Things I Imagined

I Saw Things I Imagined is a multimedia project and experiment in Afro-fabulation informed by memories of my mother’s hair salon and her immigration story. Inspired by my West African heritage/spirituality and American upbringing, the models portray “hair deities”. The hair worn was braided collaboratively amongst myself, friends, and family. This work is an homage to the gathering place and sanctuary that is the salon.
